SJP's New R&D Car

SJP has just purchased an XD Falcon to use as a Research and Development car for our OzTrak’s and for ongoing engine development and testing. We had been looking around for a while and were unable to find a suitable candidate locally. Good XD’s are getting thin on the ground now and we purchased this car from Melbourne it is currently on the train and should arrive this week in Perth (5/11/07). Originally a 302C/C4 auto/BW diff. We intend to firstly clean it up, carry out any repairs as needed- panel and paint, remove the gas system, tow bar (if you are chasing a cheap gas system or heavy duty tow bar gives us a call) and get it through license asap.

The plan is to fit my old 351C from my XY which is currently sitting in a corner of the workshop and in need of a home. We will be replacing the old stock rods and heavy TRW pistons with a set of Eagle “H” beams and SRP’s, we also plan on giving the old ported 2V iron heads the flick in favour of a set of locally made alloy heads, but we are restricted by manifold choice though and the purchase of another intake is not factored into the budget. We will be running a toploader 4 speed and 9” rear end and of course a set of OzTrak Traction Bars. We believe the manual will be better suited to the street usage planned for the car, plus manuals are heaps more fun anyway.

Now the intention is to keep costs down as much as possible therefore we have to use what we got in the way of intake manifolds which are-

Active 2V high rise

Or

Holley Strip Dominator 4V

Update 6/11/2007

The XD has arrived picked it up from Welshpool today. We took a bit of a risk as we purchased it over the net and to be honest were a little apprehensive that it would be ok as today was the first time we actually had a real proper look over it and we are happy to say the car is not to bad there is some minor panel damage to the front left guard and there are a lot of shopping centre scraps and scratches but the body is pretty much rust free.

See picture below:

The nudge bar, spot lights & wheels have gotta go!!!!
More very soon we intend to update every week or 2 weeks.
