research & development

SJ Performance has ongoing R&D into our 351 Cleveland cylinder block project that has been much talked about. This project is only one part of our continuing R&D efforts.

We have listened to the engine builder/racer and the enthusiast and we are bring you a cylinder block that will exceed you expectations in function and performance levels.

Our cylinder block is based on the NASCAR 351 Cleveland, part of our development called for the cutting up of an XE192540 casting which even made me cringe in doing so but rest assured it is for a good cause. Based on a 351C NASCAR casting.

  • Cast from 356 Aluminium heat treated to T6. (AC 601)
  • Removable dry cylinder sleeves.
  • Re-enforced cylinder head bolt hole bosses.
  • Strengthened lifter bores.
  • Lifter valley strengthening ribs for block structural integrity.
  • Increased oil drain back provisions to sump
  • Re-enforced bulkheads (similar to NASCAR casting)
  • Improved cooling capacity around cylinders (enlarged cooling jackets)
  • Re-enforced oil pan rails (similar to NASCAR casting)
  • Increased deck thickness
  • Revised 4 bolt main caps
  • Priority oiling system

Initially we planned on an Aluminium version, but with the large interest in a cast iron variant we are currently reviewing this and planning on a cast iron variant of the cylinder block.

We appreciate any feedback you may have on this or ideas for inclusion into our products so please feel free to email or call us.
